Okanagan Film Festival – July 21st to July 25th
What are you doing next Saturday?? How about it’s time for a ROAD TRIP to Kelowna to be entertained at the Okanagan Film Festival?
Someone from KILLAWATT is going to try and show up. We really want to go, but our day jobs are currently getting in the way of such a journey unfortunately. But that doesn’t mean you still can’t go to the movies and enjoy the screening of “Everything’s Coming Up Rosie” on Saturday, July 24th @ the Paramount Theatre at 7:15pm.
So if you are going to Kelowna or live in the area….check out a BC made film and tell us what you think.
Cheers,
KILLAWATT

Whose going to Kelowna? better yet, who LIVES there?
As summer approaches people start planning their getaways from the Lower Mainland. What better quick getaway is there, then a quick jaunt to the Okanagan for some wine tasting, swimming, sea doos and attending the 2010 Okanagan International Film Festival to see a movie in the air conditioned theater! KILLAWATT is thrilled that “Everything’s Coming Up Rosie” is being screened at this film festival between July 21st to 25th.
Although the schedule is currently not available, the team here at KILLAWATT can’t help but plan what other activities there are to do in Kelowna, B.C. to compliment the film festival activities of parties and other films.
It’s sure to be an exciting weekend, if you are going to be around let us know!
Cheers,
KILLAWATT

Cannes Film Festival 2010 – Short Film Corner
Everyone has heard of the CannesFilm Festival and have seen the pics of the stars walking the red carpet and have heard of this movie or that movie opening the festival. It is also a film industry networking event, with parties, producers, directors and stars as this festival isn’t established for public viewing. It is one of the oldest private film festivals in the world started in 1939 for art to protest against fascist governments and showcase art in film. Through the decades and into the 21st century it has made it’s presence known as a venue for showcasing European films and for other feature films to be picked up for distribution around the world. It really is a one stop shop of film makers to see what others are doing and to show off what you have accomplished lately. There is a jury that screens every film and there are awards given to deserving films. The head juror this year is Tim Burton, the creative mind behind films such as “Edward Scissorhands” and “Alice in Wonderland”. It will be interesting to see who get’s the Palm d’Or this year.
There is a lesser known component of the film festival called the Short Film Corner [SFC] and to quote the SFC website it is the “essential rendez-vous point for film makers”. We are privileged to have “Rosie” registered int he SFC 2010 Catalog for distributors and other filmmakers to screen. Executive Producer, Paul Armstrong, is off to Cannes to as a result of gaining registration into the SFC. Hopefully, he will be able to generate more industry buzz around our “Rosie”.
Cheers,
KILLAWATT
November’s ION Magazine article
Last November, Ms. Alicia Worbel from ION Magazine contacted Jereme and wanted to write an article on not only the film “Everything’s Coming Up Rosie” but on Jereme as well. As a Vancouver filmmaker it was an honor to be recognized by local media.
Read the article if you haven’t already ready it – here it is or go to ION Magazine to check out more! http://www.ionmagazine.ca/2009/11/jereme-watts-everythings-coming-up-rosie/
Thirty-three-year-old Jereme Watt had not always planned on becoming a filmmaker. After receiving a diploma in Outdoor Pursuits at Mount Royal College, he moved to Fernie, B.C. to improve his snowboarding skills. But after two years on the slopes, he decided to make a change and go back to school. Jereme went to the Fernie library intending to research a post-secondary program, such as physiotherapy, that would allow him to expand on and nurture his love for the outdoors. However, the library’s collection of academic calendars was quite sparse, and instead Jereme encountered information on a film program in Calgary. He has since graduated from the program and worked on several projects. Everything’s Coming Up Rosie is his first short that has generated buzz outside the realm of YouTube.
The film centres around the life of a young autistic girl who struggles to communicate with her family on the most basic of levels. Jodelle Ferland of Nanaimo, B.C., star of horror flicks Silent Hill and Tideland, plays the leading role (she’ll also be in the third Twilight movie). While we get a glimpse into the life of a loving family experiencing strain due to frustration, the film is slightly atypical in that it employs both animation and actors to tell its story. What arises from this is a sort of Alice in Wonderland-type feeling where the viewer not only has the opportunity to see what the parents of the autistic girl see, but also to view the trials and tribulations that the girl herself has to sift through in her own mind.
If you do shed a tear at the end of the film as I did, Jereme would be pleased—not because he enjoys watching his audience cry, but because this is a way of measuring success. He says, “I have heard from some people who have seen Everything’s Coming Up Rosie that there was an emotional nerve struck and that is very satisfying to me because it’s all about storytelling … I am very proud of this project overall in that regard.”
Although this is Jereme’s first major short, there is certainly no visible lack of experience in the film. Humbly, he credits much of its success to the creative people he worked with on the project, who allowed him to learn more about the filmmaking process. He adds, “finding the reasons for doing the things that we do, can be a very entertaining aspect of life.”

Playoff hockey = KILLAWATT hiatus?
In the midst of a post-Olympic city hangover, the KILLAWATT team has not had a moment’s rest. With the filming of The Pair complete and in Post Production, the continuing legal jargon that requires a dictionary and thesaurus to be present at all times and learning “simple” accounting software, the idea of updating this blog and this website has unintentionally taken a backseat. As well, KILLAWATT isn’t exactly the primary source of income, so the team has to have those pesky [but great and awesome] day jobs to pay the bills and let us continue to do what we do here. As things are starting to come together, the creative juices continue to flow. So many ideas so little time!
The other time consuming event that has entered the world of KILLAWATT are the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Jereme is a big hockey fan. HUGE in fact. He definitely loves the game. Therefore, there is a lot of hockey on the computer and TV at this time. As the number of teams in the playoffs diminish, more time opens up for the creative stuff. Let’s just hope the creative juices don’t distribute a polar bear on ice skates playing goalie.
Never fear, KILLAWATT will do it’s best to not just discuss the Vancouver Canucks and their challenges with killing a penalty and the euphoric high when they score a goal in every post from here until the Stanley Cup Finals [KILLAWATT is optimistic]. No hiatus here. In fact, there are many more announcements about “Rosie”, we can’t say anything just yet, so keep in touch!
Cheers,
KILLAWATT

Day Two – The Pair
Only a two day shoot and the team of KILLAWATT is exhausted and wondering where our weekend went. Reflecting back over the last two days, it has been busy and rewarding. The Pair is “in the can”, well…in the computer is more like it. The smaller cast and crew today did an awesome job to get the job done and finish ahead of schedule! How often do you hear of that on a production!!
Big thanks again to all the housemates at the Ghetto Mansion at Oak and 49th. We invaded your home for about four to five hours today. We are hoping that the muffins, doughnuts and coffee made the inconvenience a tad less intrusive on a Sunday morning.
Also KILLAWATT is sending a big shout out to the best outtake of the day to three year old Anna – “Daddy, Juan has Jesus on his balls”. Anna was close that take and then got it right later. To find out the actual line she had to say – you are going to have to stay tuned for details on a screening/film festival/DVD release date for the crass, rude and absolutely funny short film of “The Pair”.
Cheers,
KILLAWATT

Day One – The Pair
Yesterday was the first day for the shooting of KILLAWATT’s next short film, The Pair, writtten and directed by Jereme Watt. It was a very long but great day.
With the help of friends and colleagues who donated or greatly discounted their time and talent, we were able to get what we need. Being that the film is basically one scene and that we are such a small cast and crew, we were able to get everything shot that Jereme wanted.
We have to send a big THANK YOU to Mersad and Kevin – co-owners of The Hennessey, especially to Mersad who only got about five hours sleep and came back to open the bar/restaurant for us at 6:00am, napped in his office for the remainder of the day and let KILLAWATT have the run of the place. The Hennessey is a great bar/restaurant, great food with events every other night of the week. From Sketch comedy night to DJ competitions and with decor that is comfortable and casual, it is a great place to meet up with friends and have a good night out. Please visit the place and say “Hi” to Mersad, Kevin and the rest of The Hennessey crew!
Pictures of the shoot are still to come. In the mean time, follow Jereme on Twitter, you never know what he might say.
Cheers,
KILLAWATT
And ACTION!
As you can imagine, life is busy here at KILLAWATT. We are filming this weekend and the preparation time required for only two days of filming is pretty large, just imagine what the “To Do” list would be if it was more than that!
The project that we are working on is called “The Pair”. I can’t tell you much about the short film right now, except that it is not in the same genre as “Everything’s Coming Up Rosie”. ”The Pair” will showcase the diversity of Jereme Watt’s creativity. So for now, that’s all I can say. Please feel free to guess.
Stay tuned for more details and cross your fingers that post production will be completed sooner than later!
Cheers,
KILLAWATT
P.S. Jereme will start blogging soon…all he needs is more time in the day. Hopefully you can help and make that happen
And the winner is…
This past weekend Jereme Watt’s film “Everything’s Coming Up Rosie” took home the Maple Leaf Award for BEST CANADIAN SHORT at the Canada International Film Festival.
Good thing Executive Producer – Paul Armstrong was able to attend the gala to accept the award on Jereme’s behalf!
Thanks Paul!
Cheers,
KILLAWATT
